I would not recommend this AAMCO location based on our experience with a 2018 Nissan Murano. This shop advertises itself as veteran-owned and operated, which makes this situation even more disappointing because the vehicle owner is a retired Army veteran with approximately 30 years of service. The owner brought the vehicle in for transmission work. The original discussion/quote was approximately $9,000, but after the vehicle had been there for a while, the price increased to over $13,000. The explanation given was that the original transmission option was not available and that a more expensive replacement had to be obtained from California. In my opinion, that is a major price increase that should have come with very clear written warnings, especially because the transmission repair cost appears to have been more than, or at least close to, the actual market value of the vehicle. The owner chose to spend the money because the Murano had been a comfortable, reliable vehicle in good overall condition, and he believed a properly installed transmission would keep the vehicle on the road. Instead, the vehicle suffered catastrophic engine failure shortly after leaving AAMCO. The mileage records show the vehicle came in at about 160,630 miles, left AAMCO at about 160,650 miles, and failed at about 160,704 miles — only about 54 miles after leaving the shop. What concerns us most is that there does not appear to be clear documentation showing that fluid levels, cooling-system condition, cooler lines, radiator-related transmission cooler connections, or post-repair checks were properly verified before the vehicle was released. AAMCO reportedly stated that they “did nothing with the radiator,” but with this type of transmission work, the transmission cooler/cooling-line system is directly relevant. That statement does not give confidence that the issue was fully reviewed. Now the owner is left with a disabled vehicle after paying over $13,000 for transmission work. For a shop that promotes itself as veteran-owned, this is a terrible way for a retired Army veteran customer to be treated. At this point, I believe AAMCO should accept a full independent mechanic’s review after that mechanic is allowed to examine AAMCO’s records, invoices, technician notes, mileage records, and findings. If the independent review supports that AAMCO’s transmission work, cooler-line handling, fluid procedures, or post-repair inspection more likely than not contributed to the engine failure, then AAMCO should pay to get this vehicle operational again. That repair should be done either by the independent mechanic, a Nissan dealer, or another AAMCO location chosen by the Murano’s owner — not simply pushed back to the same shop without accountability. We were also later told that a Nissan dealer could have performed the transmission work for far less than what AAMCO ultimately charged, and a dealer repair would normally include clear documentation that fluids, cooling-system checks, and any discrepancies were noted before the vehicle left the facility. This was an extremely expensive repair that should have restored the vehicle, not left a retired Army veteran with a blown engine approximately 54 miles later.
